BACKGROUND
|
In early 2006, the former Parish Priest (Fr Francis Xavier)
wanted a course on St Mark’s Gospel to be conducted for the
parishioners of IC Church.
|
A committee was formed to plan and organize the course and it
was launched on 7 Sep. Some 80 parishioners signed up for this
course titled “ Bible Journey through the Gospel of St Mark.”
|
In Dec 2005 Fr Xavier Called for a meeting to plan and carry out
activities for 2006 as a run-up to Bible Sunday, which had
always been a low-key celebration in the parish. The committee
was upgraded to Bible Apostolate status and organized as follows

A 7-member Admin Support Team was also formed to assist the Core
Team.
VISION
|
To build BEC’s founded on the Word of God for on-going
conversion and growth through living Christ’s teachings. Thus
B.E.C members will help realize the Vision - Mission of the
Diocese of Penang to “ bear witness to the love of God
through the love they have for each other and the world “.
MISSION
|
Conduct Bible Study programmes, formation sessions, week-end
recollections and Bible-related programmes for B.E.Cs and
Ministry leaders.
|
Provide Bible publications and audio-visual programmes through
the setting up of a Bible library.
|
Carry out Bible-related activities to stimulate interest in
sacred Scripture.
|
Encourage parishioners to attend external Bible study courses.
|
Plan activities for Bible Sunday every year.
BIBLE
& ME BOOKLET
|
Produced in conjunction with Bible Sunday recently, this booklet
is designed to help parishioners better understand the
composition of the Bible and how to pray / share the Bible in
small groups, especially at B.E.C. level.
It has been distributed to parishioners through their respective
B.E.C.s on the scale of one per family. If you have not received
your copy, do call in at the Parish Office. Reprints will be
arranged if there is still a need.
BIBLE SHARING
FORMATION
|
This will be conducted by Fr. Mark Michael on Wed, 22 October
2008, for B.E.C leaders, Head Of Ministries and Groups and
other interested parties. Its purpose is to enable participants
to pray and share the Word Of God, so that they will then pass
it on by forming cells in their respective groups and leading
these sessions.
Do sign up. Help spread the Word of God and make praying and
sharing the Word a reality in our Parish.
CONCLUSION

In John 6:68 we read of Peter’s faith declaration in Jesus :

“ Master to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal
life.”
|
The Bible is as important in the life of Catholics as is the
Holy Eucharist. Jesus is the incarnate Word made flesh. Both are
essential for us to grow in the faith. The Bible Apostolate is
committed to playing it’s part in continually arranging Bible
programmes to promote a hunger and thirst for the Word of God
amongst the parishioners of IC Church.
