Introduction
Selamat Datang! Welcome to
the website of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, a Roman
Catholic parish on the island of Penang, in the northern region
of Peninsular Malaysia. Our parish boundaries stretch from the
urban district of Pulau Tikus, where our parish church is
located, westwards along the northern coast, to the northwestern
tip of the island, covering the suburban areas of Tanjung Tokong,
Tanjung Bungah, Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang.
Our parish traces its roots to the early Eurasian settlements in
Pulau Tikus. The first parish church was built on a site which
is now the Kelawei Cemetery. In the early years, the parish was
ministered to by the French MEP* Fathers, gradually paving the
way for the ministry of local priests.
The faith of the community manifests itself in various parish
ministries, which cater to various charisms, and preferences.
The BEC movement is an essential
foundation of our parish, and the parish is divided into 14
zones, including two zones each for the Chinese and Tamil
Apostolates.
A vibrant, cosmopolitan parish, our parishioners hail from many
corners of the world. If you are new to our parish or just
paying a visit to our website, feel free to browse through and
get to know what our parish is about. If you have any questions
or would like to know more, do not hesitate to
contact us.
* MEP is the
abbreviation for
Missions Etrangères de Paris, a
Catholic missionary society based in France.
