Parish Ministries - Liturgical
The liturgy is everything concerning the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The following are among the ministries involved in liturgical preparation and celebration.

Altar Servers   Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Akin to the order of acolytes, they assist the celebrant at the altar during Mass, attending to supporting roles such as carrying the cross, candles, incensing, etc. Altar servers are commonly recruited from among boys and young men, as an early exposure to the vocation of priesthood.

Suitability – Boys and young men, with an open heart to serve the Lord.

They assist in administering Holy Communion to the faithful, because although the priest is the ordinary minister of Holy Communion, large congregations make it impractical for priests to solely administer this sacrament at Mass. They also bring Communion to the sick and homebound.

Suitability – Mature adults with clear conscience, worthy of this honourable ministry.

Commentators   Lectors

A commentator guides the congregation through the PA system during Mass, giving cues to stand, kneel or be seated, announce at the commencement of Mass, the Prayer of the Faithful, and church notices, among other things.

Suitability – Anyone with a dynamic voice, good command of spoken language (whether English, Mandarin or Tamil), and able to keep pace with the course of the Mass, plus a willingness to serve!

Lectors present Readings, and occasionally the Responsorial Psalm from the pulpit for all to hear. They are responsible for doing so in a clear and beautiful way, to enable the faithful to better grasp the Word of God.

Suitability – Anyone with a dynamic voice, good command of spoken language (whether English, Mandarin or Tamil) and narrative skills, plus a willingness to serve!

Music Ministries   LCD Operators

The music ministries create music for a fuller worship setting at Mass. There are various music ministries in our parish, ranging from the traditional Latin Choir, to contemporary bands.

Suitability – Anyone with good musical ability, whether to sing or play an instrument, or even to conduct and lead.

To guide the congregation, slides are flashed on screens on the sanctuary side walls, visible by all in the church. These are operated by LCD projectionists.

Suitability – Anyone with basic computer skills, and a willingness to serve. Knowledge of MS Powerpoint is an added advantage.

Ministers of Hospitality (Wardens)

Liturgical Environment (Flowers, etc)

They greet us at the church door, usher us to available seats, collect the Mass Collection, ensure orderly queuing and reception of Holy Communion, as well as order at Mass.

Suitability – Anyone who is willing to serve, and finds the above suitable to his/her service.

This team prepares flowers on the sanctuary, and decorations during festivities, in line with liturgical guidelines, to visually enhance the worship environment at Mass.

Suitability – Those with a gift for creating beauty in these particular forms.

Sacristans

Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

Sacristans prepare the liturgical vestments, vessels and tools, as well as the church building itself for the celebration of the Eucharist. At the moment, the parish engages a full-time sacristan, although those who are interested are welcome to explore the possibilities of this ministry.

Suitability – Must be willing to start long before Mass begins, and finish up, long after everyone else has gone home! A tedious task, it involves a lot of running around, manual work, and a good sense of tidiness and organization. If this appeals to you, you know what to do.

The Children's Liturgy is a programme where children attending Sunday Mass are nurtured with the Word in ways more suitable and exciting for their age. The sessions run parallel to the regular Liturgy of the Word at Mass. The sessions involve creative ways such as singing, activities, games and prayer.

Suitability - Adults or youth who have good children skills, and are willing to serve. Creative and fun-loving persons are especially sought after. If you play the guitar, or are good at children's games, or storytelling, you would be well suited for this special ministry.
